The LowDown is a 501c3 accredited non-profit focusing on peer-to-peer educational outreach based in Charlotte, North Carolina. We want to help event organizers curate a safe space for their attendees by supplying resources and volunteers for harm reduction booths. We partnered with local concert organizers and outside harm reduction agencies to create outreach booths at select shows throughout the Carolinas. As the demand for harm reduction services grows within our scene and beyond, we want to give every promoter the chance to make their events a safer space.
The LowDown is not any one individual: it is a collective of harm reductionists, promoters, artists, and patrons who believe in personal responsibility and community wellness. Click Here for more information on our admin team behind the scenes.
We work with event organizers, such as concert promoters, to provide a space at events for harm reduction education and free harm reduction materials. We also collaborate with other nonprofits that specialize in a variety of topics to provide accessible information from the professionals. When you see The LowDown on an event flyer or website, you will know that those organizers care about the health and safety of their patrons.
The LowDown booths offer harm reduction in a variety of ways. We provide fentanyl test strips, fact-based drug education, and direction to substance abuse support services for those who use drugs and struggle with addiction. We encourage safe sex and consent culture through free condoms, personal lubricant and educational handouts. We provide free foam earplugs to protect people's hearings. We promote inclusivity by giving support groups a platform to raise awareness for their causes. The LowDown is not an expert in one subject: we work with the experts in each respective fields and give them a voice at events that need it.
The Low Down wants to bridge the gap between event organizers and public health nonprofits. We are grateful for these groups, whether they are the people throwing events for their community or working hard in their respective harm reduction fields. We thank the organizers for giving us a space to promote health and safety in their communities, and the experts for advocating for supportive approaches to public safety.
The LowDown started in the electronic music scene, and continues to be our main community focus. However, we do not want to limit our services to just this community. We look forward to expanding our outreach to other community events and organizations.
